Winter News 2018

It is with great regret to report that Mr. Anthony J. Egan (7th degree black belt in karate / Purple Belt in BJJ / long time student and friend of Mr. Exaros) passed away in November after a two-year, tough battle with cancer.  Our hearts go out to his wife, Letisha and his son, Mason in this trying time.

Women’s Self Defense Class was held Saturday, October 7th.  It was a lot of fun.  Topics covered were striking, defense from being grabbed, and escapes and chokes from the ground.

Kids Night Out Halloween Costume Party – Saturday, October 28th 5-9pm.  Registration is $25 per child.  Come in costume and bring a friend.  Ms. Lynott will have a flyer out on this soon.

Good Luck! to BJJ Blue Belt Kishan Jivani who enlisted in the Army Reserves.  He’ll be gone for about six months and is coming back to continue his training with us in April.

Saturday, January 21 12n. We will train for a little over an hour, then go to lunch. All BJJ students

Black Belt Prep Class
Saturday, January 21 2pm. All students being tested this year for Sho-Dan should report.

Horsham 300 year Anniversary Health and Wellness Demonstration.
Saturday, February 11 at Simmons Elementary School. We will be hosting a booth from 10am to 3pm with a

As we finish up the year, 2016 I want to take a moment to thank all of the students, parents and families who have been so supportive over the past 25+ years.  This didn’t just happen, we made it happen.

Here is some news for our Academies as we draw closer to 2017:

Dec. 17th was our End of the Year Kanpai (All Black Belts)  Congratulations to Mr. King and Mr. Larosa on their promotion to San-Dan (3rd Degree Black Belt) and to Mr. Keller on his promotion to Go-Dan (5th Degree Black Belt). We all went out to dinner afterwards at our favorite Sushi restaurant: Hunan City in Warrington. Great Time!.

Congratulation to Mr. S. Parys and his wife, Kat on the birth of their second child, Elizabeth Marie on Christmas Day!!!! Momma and baby are doing great!

Congratulations to Ms. Nicole Wagner on graduating with her Masters Degree this month in Geography from the West Chester University. Her majors were Geography, Planning and GIS. She also published a thesis on “Reconstruction of Historical Streams and Wetlands in Philadelphia.” Great job!

Deepest Condolences to Ms. Lynott and her family on the loss of her grandmother a couple days before Christmas.

Deepest Condolences to Instructor Mackenzie Walters on the passing of her mother. Her mother was a prominent figure in the community, having worked at Simmons Elementary School for many years. Our thoughts are with you.

Deepest Condolences to Mr. Richard Bornstein on the passing of his mother in August.  Mr. Bornstein lost his father earlier this year, too….very tough time for his family.

Winter Newsletter 2015-2016

New Locations Open up for Karate, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Anti-Bullying Classes:

  1.  In January, Kokoro Kai partnered with the Doylestown Recreation Center to teach a kids martial arts class at the Activity Center near Kids Castle Park on Wells Road, Doylestown.  We are beginning our second session at the Rec Center on March 4th.  You can register your child by visiting doylestownrec.com
  2. Feb. 29th we also open up our martial arts classes at the Lansdale Recreation Center.  Classes will be held every Monday night at 6pm for kids ages 5-12.  You can register by visiting www.lansdale.org/145/Parks-Recreation
  3. Starting April 5th, we will be heading up our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Judo and Anti-Bullying martial arts program for children ages 5-12 at the Upper Merion Recreation Center in King of Prussia.  You can get more information on the program by visiting their site at https://register.capturepoint.com/reg/cat_program_list.cfm?season_id=12451


  • Ariana Reckhemmer on her acceptance into the Staff Assistant Program.  She will be assisting Ms. Lynott on Saturday mornings in the Little Warriors Program.

  • Gabrielle Leavitt made National Honor Society!
  • Yovel Lendner was accepted into John Hopkins University
  • Abby Cox on her acceptance into the Staff Assistant Program.  She will be assisting Ms. Lynott on Saturday mornings in the Little Warriors Program.

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / MRJJA Seminar was a complete hit.  We had many participants from our Dojo and six of our students were promoted to Blue Belt after a rigorous testing:  Michael Neff, Amanda Maguire, Mackenzie Walters, Kishan Jivani, Erik Cunningham and Casey Johnston

Discovery Time:  Our Kai sponsored the Discovery Time Course at Simmons Elementary School again this February.  Ms. Walters and Ms. Ostapenko conducted a course that included Karate, Judo and an introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  We are happy to be involved with such a great after-school program.

Congratulations:  To Mr. & Mrs. Brad and Kari Umfer on their wedding.  They made it official on 8/31 and are getting married in Mexico over Labor Day Weekend!

Congratulations to all those who participated in the IWKA tournament in Princeton, NJ the weekend of August 7th.  Everyone had a great time and did very well in all three events!

Congratulations to Mr. Joe Cassin who was promoted to Sho-Dan (1st degree black belt) on August 9th.  Mr. Cassin went through a vigorous testing that day, by himself, and passed with flying colors.  Good luck at college and we look forward to seeing you back in the Dojo with your new black obi during your breaks!

KAI Adventure Club Donation:  Over the weekend at the Gasshuku, we made our Kai Adventure Club donation to the Free To Breathe fundraiser.  I personally handed Ms. B. Winter Newsletter 2014-2015

Congratulations to Mr. Steve Dull.  He is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Robotics Team for Hatboro-Horsham High School.  The Team won the Chairman’s Award!  Great Job!

Deepest Condolences to Mr. J. Parisi on the passing of his father, Paul Parisi over the Easter Weekend.

Our hearts also go out to our good friends, the Carmonas in New Jersey who lost Mrs. Carmona’s mother on Easter Sunday.

KAI ADVENTURE CLUB……Go-Kart Racing and the hike/bike at Valley Forge events were a blast last month.  We are looking to do a couple of really cool activities in the coming months.  We hope you will join us!
